Senior Timeline
Your Final Steps to College Success
Senior year is the culmination of your college preparation journey. This timeline will guide you through the critical steps to ensure a successful transition from high school to college.
Fall Semester Priorities
College Application Preparation
- • Apply to at least 3 schools: Include a safety school, target school, and reach school
- • Apply early: Submit applications no later than November for best consideration
- • Use proper platforms:

- - www.applytexas.org for Texas public colleges
- - www.commonapp.org for out-of-state and private colleges
Testing and Recommendations
- • Sign up early for SAT/ACT if you need to retake for better scores
- • Request teacher recommendations at least 2 weeks in advance
- • Complete SAT Subject Tests if required by your target colleges
Financial Aid & Scholarships
- • Complete FAFSA starting October 1st for maximum financial aid consideration
- • Follow each college's scholarship process - every school has different requirements and deadlines
- • Remember: Much of your financial aid and scholarship money will come from the college you choose to attend
Spring Semester Priorities
Continued Preparation
- • Register for Selective Service (men only, within 30 days of 18th birthday)
- • Continue scholarship search and apply for additional opportunities
- • Sign up for AP tests to potentially earn college credit
- • Maintain good grades - colleges can rescind offers for poor senior year performance
Final College Decision
- • Compare financial aid packages from all accepted colleges
- • Finalize your college choice by May 1st (National Decision Day)
- • Request final transcript be sent to your chosen college and Grayson College
